Jordan participates in PACE meetings in Strasbourg

Strasbourg, January 29 (Petra)- The Lower House’s First Deputy Speaker, Nassar Qaisi, called on members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to address their government to support Jordan in its continued efforts towards the Palestinian issue in order to achieve a comprehensive peace process in the Middle East.

Qaisi made his remarks in the PACE meetings in Strasbourg on Wednesday, as he headed a parliamentary delegation to the gathering.

The delegation includes deputies Riyadh Azzam, Hassan Ajarmeh, Qais Ziyadin, Fawaz Zoubi, Haya Mefleh and Maram Heesa.

Members of the Political and Democracy Affairs Committee discussed a report on Jordan as a partner for democracy presented by MP Ziyadin, pointing out to the true friendship and strategic partnership that links Jordan with many parties, including European countries.

Regarding US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday of the so-called “deal of the century”, Zayadin said Jordan officially and publicly rejects it, in line with His Majesty King Abdullah’s clear stance in this regard, and the Palestinian people reject it as a deal that is clearly biased in favor of the Israeli far right.

“There will be no final agreement without a just solution that guarantees the historical rights of the Palestinian people and guarantees a two-state solution,” he added, referring to His Majesty’s position on many occasions, the last of which was a few days before members of the European Parliament during his official speech.

Qaisi called on members of the committee and all European parliaments to play an important role to thwart the plan and this apartheid, as there is fear of the future of the region and values set by the international community, and the need for all European countries to defend, through their parliaments, such values of justice, freedom, democracy and equality.
