Bilateral Relations

 General information about Belgium

  • Language: Flemish (Dutch) in the north, French in the south.
  • National day: 21/07.

The political system of Belgium, or the Kingdom of Belgium, is a popular monarchy and a federal parliamentary democracy. Belgium is a founding member of the European Union; it hosts the EU headquarters and several  international organizations such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Belgium has an area of 30,528 square kilometers (11,787 square miles), with a population of about 11 million.

Historically, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg have been known as the Low Countries. This  term is used to cover a somewhat larger area than the current Benelux group.

Bilateral Relations

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1958. Diplomatic representation was exchanged in 1976. Relations between the two countries are characterized by distinction and mutual respect. These relations were crowned by the visit of Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah to Belgium in May 2017.

 

Economic Relations

 

  • The main Jordanian exports to Belgium are: plant and mineral products, industrial plastics and rubber, textile materials and their products.
  • Jordan’s main imports from Belgium are: animal products, machinery and equipment, transport equipment, timber.
